A Statement on Recent Times

Wear it Purple stands with the organisations, leaders and allies that rise against the outdated and unfounded commentary made against our transgender and gender diverse communities. As a nation we have moved far beyond limited understandings of sex, sexuality and gender diversity. There is no longer any place for regressive thinking.

For the past 12 years Wear it Purple has collaborated with schools, universities, corporations and the broader community to create inclusive and supportive environments for everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community. Wear it Purple Day has become an international movement of expression, celebration and support for rainbow young people. We thank our allies who celebrate Wear It Purple Day as part of their formalised diversity and inclusion activities and are heartened to see increasing representation.

Katherine Hudson, co-founder of Wear it Purple has said “Our day of celebration is both broadly and loudly supported as society has long recognised that no one should ever be treated unfairly because of who they are.”

Wear it Purple acknowledges the stoicism and grace of transgender communities who continue to live with authenticity and intelligence despite being subjected to continuing unnecessary and unparalleled scrutiny. We stand with you to shut down unjust dialogue. Corey Trembath, Board Director and transgender man asks that the those who speak to the topics involving LGBTQIA+ communities do so after considering the facts, science and rights. He says “the issues impacting our communities are being exploited with false narratives and baseless fears. We must work against this.”

Wear it Purple encourage CIS allies, including those in the LGBTQIA+ community, corporations, universities, schools and politicians to stand for equality and fairness.
