Wear It Purple

You have the right to be proud of who you are.
Wear it Purple exists in order to support sexuality and gender diverse (rainbow) young people at risk. Run by students, we aim to stop the ignorance, bullying and suicides.

Supporting Schools to be Safer for Rainbow Young People: Student Empowerment!

Every Wear it Purple Day, many schools ask us to come along and help educate the school community about sexuality and gender diversity, and encourage all students to be proud of who they are. This year, Wear it Purple is excited to work with high-schoolers to create some workshops that schools can choose to have visit their school. The purpose of these workshops will be to educate about sexuality and gender diversity, and help support schools to be the safest places they can be for all students.

We currently have a survey online that we would love for any rainbow*-identifying young people - as well as friends and family of rainbow-identifying people - to fill in. It is aiming to give us better insight into how safe and supported students feel at school, and where we can help out. Check it out at wearitpurple.org!

*Rainbow: sexuality and/or gender diverse (includes, but not limited to: gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex).

We are also running some Student Empowerment Sessions (aka Focus Groups) with a team of young people in NSW, who will help create these programs with us. These sessions are currently being run in NSW as it is where Wear it Purple is located, and we are planning to chat with young people Australia-wide in the near future. If you are currently at high school in NSW, or finished between 2010-2012, we would love for you to consider joining this team to participate in these sessions! Please email jayde@wearitpurple.org to ask for an infosheet if you are interested.

The first group meeting is next Saturday, April 13th - so please contact us ASAP!

2013 Sydney Mardi Gras

Wear it Purple is excited to be able to offer you the opportunity to march with us in the 2013 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade. The parade is an opportunity for sexuality and gender diverse organisations and individuals to come together to celebrate who we are. It is really exciting as a group of young people that we are able to join in this celebration with thousands of cheering supporters.

How do you register to be part of the incredible event, I hear you ask?

Project: PURPLE!

Welcome to the new home of Wear it Purple!

We are so excited to be revealing Part 1 of 2 for Project: PURPLE - our new website!!!

Stay tuned: Part 2 is coming out exactly 24hrs after Part 1 - Monday, October 29, 6pm AEST. Check out the teaser above! We must send a huge thank you to the Mental Health Association of NSW & ACON's Peace of Mind Project for this new endeavour!

Our new home has been in the making for quite some time. We hope you find it easy, helpful and enjoyable! There is still much of the same old stuff and heaps of new things for you to check out.

Wear it Purple is glad to be a place of support and strength for many rainbow young people. We think that there is still much of society where rainbow people are not fully represented - TV, film, books and classroom lessons - Wear it Purple aims to bridge that gap. We know that you are important, unique and have a story that needs to be told. We want to hear it. We would love for you to share your story with us so that other rainbow young people will be supported too. We want this website to be a place of encouragement, support and personal journeys.

Wear it Purple aims to empower and support rainbow young people, and we hope that everything you need is on this site. If there's anything you think of that we've missed, please email us at contact@wearitpurple.org - we would love to hear from you.

WATCH THIS SPACE! This is just the beginning of new and great things for Wear it Purple! There will be plenty of new info and opportunities to get involved up here really soon, so stay tuned!

Lots of love from the Wear it Purple team.
